Child Education Sponsorship Program

Since 2008 Volunteer Initiative Nepal (‘VIN’), have been providing vital sponsorship support to the children of JitpurPhedi, Okhaldhunga, and Kaversthali. The sponsorship program benefits children from the ages of six to fifteen (6-15) and provides for their basic education from kindergarten all the way through to Grade 10. VIN supports these children in a number of ways, providing them with all of the supplies and materials they need for their schooling, for example, uniforms, books, and stationery. Further, VIN covers the full cost of the school fees and some medical costs.
Currently, there are approximately 75 children (attending 30 schools) benefitting from VINs educational sponsorship project. Further, there are a small number of individuals who were sponsored by VIN at an early age who have successfully continued on to college education. VIN continues to support these individuals on their educational journey.
VIN look to stay connected with the children who have been sponsored. There are at least three touch points between VIN and the children, one in April, one in August and also one in December. Further, if the Sponsor would like to meet the child which they have helped support, VIN will coordinate an introduction. One recent example of this is when Chanas Lama’s sponsor visited with him this week. This interaction provides both the sponsor and the child an opportunity to get to know one another and develop a relationship.
VIN is now preparing for the upcoming school year and will be distributing all of the school sponsorship supplies at the end of April 2019. All the sponsors will soon receive April’s intake documents, which include the children’s progress reports, photographs of the children at school and letters from the children.
VIN would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped sponsor children’s education in Nepal to date and would like to welcome all new sponsors. A small contribution can make a huge difference to the children of these marginalized communities.

Thank you for supporting the children of the Nation. Many have the ability and financially stable but they don’t have that heart of helping. Am so grateful and thankful for your work. May God reward you for the work of your hands. Please I also have a baby girl who is 9 months and I also want to get a sponsor who can support her because what I earn at my job is not enough for her necessities and if I think of educating her, she will not get the good education. Thank you in advance.

Volunteering with VIN was an incredibly experience! I spent an amazing 2 weeks working in 4 schools teaching about disasters and preparedness while enhancing the childrens english. Everyone I met was so lovely and helpful enciting me into their culture. While in Okhaldhunga I got to see multiple festivals including Gai Jatra and Teej, which was unforgettable and really made my time in Nepal. I'm so glad VIN allowed me to see the beautiful sights and culture if Nepal and I wish to come back soon!
