Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) has been organizing Dalit Entrepreneurship Project in marginalized areas of Okhaldhunga. Under this project, we are conducting 10-days beads (pote) making training for women from marginalized caste. Our trainer Mrs. Sistata Adhakari has been conducting the training for 3 days now, one session lasting about 4-hours. During this time period, women learn to make beautiful beads necklace, finger-rings, bangles, ear-rings and more. They are provided with essential materials during this phase of learning and practicing.
Participating women seem very enthusiastic to learn the new skill handicraft skill and convert it in a source of income generation. So far, we have 14 participants for the training. After the training, they can commercially make the articles and sell it to a nearby market or bring it to Kathmandu (the capital of Nepal) for larger market coverage. We have been motivating the women to diligently participate in the training so that they can be an entrepreneur at the comfort of their own homes. So far, they have been showing sincere interest and are considerably learning very well.
The raw materials required for making these articles are not available in Okhaldhunga locally. Thus, VIN has assured that in case anyone would like to take this beads (pote) making training professionally in near future, they would be supported for the transportation of raw materials. VIN staffs and trainer Mrs. Sistata Adhikari has been continuously inspiring the participants to make the best of this opportunity.
