Compared to the western world, the concept of libraries are still new. Whether they are physical places or online, libraries are a resource that needs to be more widely spread and there is not enough awareness raising and training to teachers and students on how to use libraries in Nepal.
Together with local community schools, teachers, students and residence of the community you will to organise teaching and learning activities through the use of library resources.
OBJECTIVES/ AIM:
The main aim is to establish a library system, which includes creating a friendly learning environment, train students and staff members how to use it.
Your placement and activities:
This work camp is a great way to see your impact in the local community from the start.
Schools might have book collections but they might not be organised well. We need volunteers to create an inviting library room.
This includes:
- Painting walls and bookshelves,
- Sorting books by genre and author in alphabetical order
- Creating a book borrowing system.
You will then teach children in a fun and creative way how to use the library. This is also a great opportunity to support children aged 5 to 12 years in their reading and writing skills.
There will be one rest day in the middle of your work camp. If you’ve volunteering at a school, the Saturdays will be a rest day also.

Teej is a festival where married women celebrate and pray for a long life for their husband and a strong relationship between them in this life and all the lives to come. Teej celebrates marital happiness, the wellbeing of husbands and wives and the purification of their own soul and body.
The main colour scheme of the festival is red. This is because the teej (a red insect) only comes out of the soil in the rainy season.
Women wear red sarees and a red tika on their forehead, they dance and sing and the main event takes place at the Pashupatinath Temple.
