Work camp is referred to as a short term project where an individual from various religious organisations volunteer to fulfill the immediate need of the society.

We empower the community by four major development initiatives i.e. women empowerment, community health, children development and youth empowerment. Our four pillars of development initiatives are education, health, income & basic infrastructure which are vital for the empowerment of disadvantaged communities.

It is most essential to develop basic infrastructure to achieve the goal of quality education, community health, and income. A school without proper classrooms, playground, fences and decoration cannot contribute to quality education. Most schools in the rural communities in Nepal lack the most basic physical infrastructure.

Poor countries like Nepal lack capital, skilled human resources, technical expertise and proper strategic plan for development. Furthermore, the unstable political turmoil and deep rooted corruption has obstructed the development process. We can empower community by utilizing our own potential and experience in best possible way.

VIN conducts various work camps, Long–term and Mid-Term Volunteering projects. Work camps are organized for those who wish to contribute for the development of marginalised community despite of short time to volunteer. VIN’s work camps are designed to address the immediate need of infrastructure development in the community. The activities are more focused on hands on activities such as constructing toilets in the community, building school compounds, libraries, classroom, painting and decorating school premises, classrooms etc.

We have hosted various work camps with our Asian and European partners around the globe. Our successful work camp activities and immediate result received so far have encouraged us to conduct more work camps in future.

The Long term or Midterm volunteers work for longer time whereas the work campers fulfill the immediate need of a community utilising their limited time and hence creating a positive impact in the community.

VIN’s work camp focuses on providing an immense opportunity for cultural immersion. The work campers will stay with a host family in the community. They will learn about the Nepalese culture, language and lifestyle.

Anyone who is interested to utilise their time and energy for the empowerment of poor and disadvantaged communities in Nepal can apply for participation. Your involvement can make a true difference.

We have 5 different projects under work camp for 2020:

Animal welfare camp 2020

For a sustainable future of the planet and environmental conservation, VIN is going to conduct an Animal Welfare Camp. This camp basically focuses on dogs, work towards a healthy build up, their protection and preservation (may be bathing, bandaging of wounds and much more).

In partnership with different organizations like Community Dog Welfare (CDW) Kapan, VIN helps stray dogs, picks them up and keeps them in the dog welfare camp, where there are experts and volunteers to take care of them. It’s much like running an orphanage but, for animals.

Post disaster and support 2020:

VIN conducts toilets/home construction, and works to restore the cultural heritages that are affected by earthquake. VIN also mobilises work camp volunteers to demolish the damage structure and manage the waste, work for school constructions and their renovation.

With large involvement of local and international volunteers VIN has been successful to construct 200 toilets which have completely changed the face of Jitpurphedi and moving further for more construction. The work campers under this project will be involved in activities such as construction of toilet, impart awareness on the right use of toilets.

Working with deaf children:

VIN conducts this program to support and help deaf children through educational and other activities and the program is going to be conducted at Sindhuli-one of the village of Nepal lying in Earstern Nepal.  VIN works in partnership with Shree Navajyoti Deaf Lower Secondary School which lies at Kamalamai Municipality-6 at Jasedamar village in Sindhuli District.

Fun with Kids:

Much like winter camp, it offers children in the community to learn new things in a new way i.e through fun and games. Volunteers spend their time having ‘Fun with Kids’ teaching them new things and culture. They can also work for school renovations, painting and making school a beautiful place to learn.

Children development work camp 2020:

Children Development is one of the major programs of VIN’s Integrated Community Development Approach. The aim of the Children Development program is to protect children by providing them with access to basic quality education, developing their life skills and giving access to health services through the community health program. VIN has different projects in the Children Development program such as Children’s Clubs (CC), Early Childhood Development (ECD), the School Attendance Project (SAP) and Orphanages.

The activities under this work camp are teaching creative ideas to the children such as drawing, colouring & painting, arts & crafts, origami, singing, dancing, drama, music, hiking, teaching English, physical exercise, team building and much more.

Your Experience/Setting

On arrival you will be greeted at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and transported to your hotel / hostel (alternative arrangements can be made for those already in Nepal prior to the start of their placement). You will then receive a comprehensive a two to three-day induction, during that time you will be provided with information about your particular project as well as general information, including basic Nepalese language and culture, health and safety. This is also a good time to mix with other volunteers or interns who may be great sight-seeing companions and a source of support during your volunteer placement.

During the induction you will be accommodated in a budget hotel or hostel at VIN. However, a large part of the VIN experience comes from the immersion of a

home stay with a Nepalese host family. While this is an essential part of the experience we also recognize that it can be a challenging one, becoming part of a new culture and becoming accustomed to facilities that will be more basic than those you are used to. However, all our host families are experienced in accommodating volunteers – although their ability to speak English will vary – and you will have 24 hours’ access to contact and support from our staff members during your placement.

Volunteers will be placed in one of VIN’s working areas namely Tarakeshor Municipality of Kathmandu, Taluwa, Thulachhap and Bhadaure of Okhaldhunga, and Okharpouwa, Kaule of Nuwakot district. While at the working site the volunteers are requested to bring their own lunch, water bottle, safety gears, face mask and other essential belongings. As a volunteer you are advised to be in a comfortable and modest attire with preferably long sleeves. If you wish to raise project funds or collect project specific resources, you may contact us.

You should be willing to commit a certain amount of your free time and energy, show a lot of commitment and be a good listener. You are expected to work constructively and co-operatively maintaining good reputation and standards at all times. Volunteer should abide by relevant security concerns and access procedures. Moreover, you should be receptive and positive to performance appraisal, advice and feedback. Throughout your placement you will have the full support of VIN. Your safety is our highest priority.
