“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.” “You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.”
My six weeks of volunteering have been one of the best times of my life involving various exciting projects that focus on life skills and capacity building to the marginalized communities.
My first project involved the earthquake disaster management training in schools very pleased with the outcome from the sessions as students from various grade understood the concept of rapid response during an earthquake. The beneficiaries gain tangible skills that they can start applying immediately when needed. the sessions were very engaging and the students thoroughly enjoyed.
My second project involved Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency First Aid training conducted on The Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV). The training covered preparation for and response to earthquakes, fire prevention and response, managing stress, the primary survey, psychological first aid, burns, bleeding, shock, the recovery position and CPR. The outstanding role play by the participants was one of the most intriguing experience.
It is said “Life learning is respecting everyday experience that enables children to understand and interact with the world and their culture”.My final project that involves working with children making a difference, and I liked being a positive force in these children’s lives, who often times had no other positive role models.it was a great learning on child vital health screening through non-invasive method and visual representation of their health,most importantly, the children made it enjoyable with their innocent gesture and humility.the most pleasant experience was when children learnt life skills and confidently displayed their independence with purity and fun.
In a nutshell “The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience” and I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed my time working on these projects.
