I am Laila Prouha from France, working in women empowerment program with VIN as a volunteer. I am currently teaching maths and English to women between the ages of 40 and 60, and I also work at the women’s cooperative named Jitpurphedi Women Agriculture Co-operative Limited for women in the afternoon. Even if this change of daily activity requires me a little walk, it is well worth it!
It is amazing to teach women who choose to come to learn despite their busy schedules. Unlike some children in school, these women want to learn and give themselves the means sometimes despite some against time. I think it’s the first time I’ve been asked to give homeworks! During this class, the exchange is mutual, I have so much joy to see them flourish in their learning, caring for their writing to be able to shout “miss, finish!”
My job at the cooperative is to implement all the recommendations that had been made by a previous international volunteer to improve it. The cooperative allows women to save money, receive interest from their savings and be able to borrow at a lower rate. However, for the co-operative to survive and even more, to grow, check-ups and regular monitoring of the numbers are needed and that’s what we try to implement.
These two missions have only one purpose, to help empower and educate women of this community, and there is nothing more beautiful than we could do!
