We were a group of five students ( Caleb, Taylor, Sophia, Siman, and Iris ) who volunteered in the VIN construction program from January 5, 2016 to January 15, 2016. During this time our group was able to complete three and a half septic holes in Jitpur. By the end of the two weeks two of the toilets have been completely done. The work consisted of digging holes, carrying stones, and mixing cement. The working environment was great because the Jitpur community was so welcoming! We all loved the daily tea that the community families provided for us. Also we really appreciated having Kishor there as the project supervisor. He also served as a necessary translator for us. All of our group really loved the people we worked for and were really sad to leave them! The experience was really great and full of the nicest people in the whole world! Our group stayed in Sam and Joyti’s home, they provided us a lovely home with plentiful food, which was much needed after the manual labor of toilet construction. Overall the experience was great. However, we do think that possibly a larger portion of the VIN program fee could go towards the toilet construction materials. Thank you for such a great experience, we look forward coming back to Nepal again!
