6th July, 2014: VIN has been supporting for personal toilet construction program since 2009 in Jitpurphedi VDC, Kathmandu. It is related to Public health project of VIN. The major objective is to improve health and hygiene facility by assuring all families have toilet of their own and to support of government on open defecate free village. The toilet construction project was initiated with collecting data by using PRA (Participatory rural Appraisal) method. After this process VIN collects the family information and finds out the family who cannot build toilet because of poor economic condition. To support the construction project, VIN has been providing non local materials for example 4bags cement, 20kg iron rod, 2 pieces roof materials, pan pipe set and wire. VIN has been mobilizing local and international volunteers in the field followed by continued supervision and monitoring work by office staffs.
On 1st July, five Korean and four French volunteers signed in for the construction project. They are helping on digging hole of safety tank, breaking stone, constructing safety tank wall and toilet house etc. These international volunteers are supporting in the toilet construction work from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm from Monday to Friday.
The construction project is very popular in community because each family is directly benefited by improving their health and increasing their quality of life. The community people thanked VIN and international volunteers work for their work.
