Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) organized an orientation to Water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) campaign educators. A day session was organized at VIN’s Head office. There were altogether 7 people with 3 local, 3 international medical students and a public health expert. The major objective of the session was to orient WASH campaign educators about VIN’s WASH project and share them ideas with manual for the campaign. All the participants were interested and highly motivated for the campaigns. The manual for the session was developed by public health expert and medical students. VINs has been conducting various awareness campaigns and providing access to better health service through “Public Health Program”.
VIN has a plan to implement the WASH project as a post disaster relief support in four districts, Kathmandu, Nuwakot, Dolakha and Okhaldhunga. WASH is a VIN’s public health and medical care sub project designed to support earthquake victims. It has a plan to support victims to build toilets, teach them about safe drinking water, hygiene and sanitation and distribute them a hygiene kit. The importance of project was to prevent epidemic of diarrheal diseases which is highly risk in post disaster period. It has already confirmed that the project will support 675 families, 100 in Jitpur, 200 in Okharpauwa, 75 in Dolakha and 300 in Okhaldhunga. The project will support people with construction materials and hygiene education. It will be conducted about 30 campaigns including 25-30 families at a time. It has a plan to start the campaign immediately after Dashain festival (28th Oct). VIN would like to request the interested locals, volunteers and professional to get involved into the campaigns.
