VIN has been supporting in various program to Jitpurphedi community. A six week long Embroidery Training was conducted in Devisthan and Athmile village of Jitpur community aiming with teaching embroidery technology for the members of women groups and developing entrepreneurship in embroidery. For this project an international volunteer Holie from UK, has provided the technical skills. This project has great potentiality which community can use and develop to create their own garments, bags etc and they can then begin to sell them and make some money for themselves.
From the start of this training, there were a lot of interests in the class. The training was held during morning time so that the women could complete their domestic activities afterwards. Training started with three participation now is continuing with six. They began with the learning of basic stitches such as running stitch, back stitch, chain, blanket and satin stitch. These are all the stitches that they will generally need in embroidery. After practicing these stitches the participants would begin to add sequins to the designs. The women have picked it up really well and have quickly began creating designs. We have recently started small bag making training along with this. From the points of the view of participants interest, their learning and its scope the training was thought to be very much successful and that we began another class in Athmile, where there is six women taking part. As we began with the same basic program in Athmile, teaching the stitches and then moving on to sequins and more complicated designs. One of the women, Som Maya, has begun to embroider onto one of her own kurtas and it looks lovely. It is rewarding knowing that even outside of their lessons they want to practice. The volunteer has taught them the practical skills and built them the confidence to draw their own designs so that participants will be fully prepared to use their skills after this training.
The training was so enjoyable that quickly running out of materials as there was so many women coming to the class looked quite interesting. The staff of VIN has managed the class room, materials and motivation. Women thanked VIN for its wonderful contribution on this project.
