On March 17th 2016 (Thursday), three Volunteer Coordinators (Sushma, Hadrien, & Joseph) went to JITPURPHEDI (Kathmandu) community to visit new volunteers inducted last March 15-16, 2016.We took bus from Balaju Bypass going to Tinpiple (last bus stop). From there, we have to walk about 15 minutes to visit our first volunteer Gyongyver Szabo from Hungary and currently based in UK. She will be doing the Agro Farm / Travel Tour project starting from March 15 to April 11, 2016. She stayed with Madhav Aryal in the Kot, Tinpiple.Upon reaching host family house, we met other existing volunteers Irene from France, and Julia from Spain.
At morning, she was waiting for her local coordinator / Facilitator to guide her on her task. Hence, she had joined first with Irene and Julia for the Women Empowerment lectures with local Jitpurphedi women. About noontime, we were introduced to her quarters were she shared together with Julia Volunteers near/around at Tinpiple area tends to meet for coffee/tea after lunch. We had the opportunity to meet other volunteers like Louise, Reece, Antonin, Simone, Colas, and Gauthier in the Tinpiple Café. We had a conversation with all of them focusing on their projects and accommodations.
From Tinpiple, we then walked for about 10 minutes to meet our next volunteers Loup and Marie from France. They are both doing Constructions, helping to build toilets around the community, which is very near from their host family. We also met Wan- Ting (constructions) from Taiwan. They were busy digging a safety tank hole (4×6 size), and we had also helped them digging, carrying 2 heavy blocks made of cement which will be later use to cover the safety tank.
Then we took a free ride from a truck to visit our next volunteers Nicolas Carret, Mathilda Ally both from France, and Clara Lefrancois from Switzerland. The host family Shiva sir is very nice guy, and our three volunteers are very happy with their accommodation. Nicolas and Mathilda are doing Marketing Management project. They are currently busy preparing slides to help promote VIN and to encourage more local volunteers by doing presentation at various colleges around Kathmandu soon. Clara is doing Women Empowerment project and planned to teach Computer, Life Skills and English language. Around 5:30 pm, we went back to Kathmandu proper by free rides on the back of the truck.
On March 18 (Friday), the volunteer coordinator team has visited some volunteers from Monastery. We went from Kalanki and splited from there to Thankot and Naikap. On March 18 (Friday), Hadrien went to visit Christian from Germany in the Thankot Orphanage/School. Christian is really pleased and happy with all the 300 kids he’s taking care of. Initially there just to teach English, he and another previous volunteer did an amazing job by putting in place a nursery that is now fully operational and running smoothly. Even though he had no medical training before coming, Christian taught by himself the basics of medicine and pharmacy. He even trained some of the older children to run the nursery in his absence! Now the kids can go there when they have a medical problem and be cured effectively. Fully adopted by his new family, Christian doesn’t want to leave the ever happy faces he’s living with for already 3 months.
Joseph and Sushma went to Rinchin Parli, Naikap to check the Paul and Jonnie from UK. The two volunteers were placed in the Monastery on 5th march 2016. A Buddhist teaching monastery is situated in the hills is overlooking the Kathmandu Valley and with very peace environment. The volunteers are doing very well on their schedules of teaching students as well as teaching English writing to the Principal of the monastery.
