VIN supports various programs in community development. One of these community development programs is the conduction of human trafficking awareness classes. These classes take place within the women empowerment program. In January 2015, VIN has mobilized two volunteers in the conduction of the classes; Jen from Hong Kong and Megan from Canada.
The main objective of the classes is to increase awareness in the community about the reality of human trafficking with the hope of eliminating this problem in the future. Information has included methods used by human traffickers, and the education of the women’s human rights to be protected from trafficking. The classes have been conducted in a variety of communities including Athmile, Tulagaun, and Dandagaun.
VIN has provided the necessary materials for these classes, such as paper and markers. They have also provided volunteers with Kishor, a translator, to help the volunteers conduct the classes.
Although a new project, VIN recognizes the importance of creating awareness of this issue which is overwhelming in Nepal. It is the hope of VIN that through continued education, this problem will be eliminated in the future.
