Helping the community maintain the health and hygiene remains major focus of VIN via its projects conducted under community health programs. From providing medical check up to conducting various research on community health status, all the programs so far has been successful. But VIN does not only limits its service by providing the medical service to people. It also provides different other things that can promote the community health. Conducting WASH program, toilet construction programs and other volunteer program for health work are the regular programs that come under community health programs. Besides such projects, VIN also distributes materials that promotes the health and hygiene of people. In the same context, VIN handover water filters to different members of the society today.
While VIN conducted water research in the communities of Jitpurphedi, water was found to be contaminated. The contamination however was found in the households more than the water sources. The research had been a guide for VIN to design various community health programs regarding safe drinking water. The programs were focused on how to drink safe water and how to purify water via various techniques like exposing solar water in the solar power, boiling and filtering other than keeping the sources clean and maintaining healthy behavior regarding water sources. Filtering was the safest and reliable way to make sure that people drank safe water.
Today, organizing a program in the premises of VIN, different community members were provided with water filters. The filters provided to the community people was sponsored by “Kite for Water”. The program was attended by different participants who had been part of VIN’s community health programs in the past. All the participants were demonstrated on how to use those water filters safely and properly. In the program attended by members of Jitpurphedi and Kavrresthali community they were also well taught about how to maintain the filters over time.
