The main objective of this campaign in the community was to create awareness of the prevalence of Domestic violence in Nepalese societies. Many people are not actually aware about domestic violence/abuse. The campaign also focused on educating locals on domestic violence, the cycle of abuse, who is the abuser? Etc. The main target audiences of the campaigns were women groups, community leaders, stake holders and other concern people. The campaign was facilitated by national volunteer Rita and international volunteers Anna and Pippa from UK. The participants were brainstormed to find current situations of domestic violence and ways to prevent domestic violence in future.
Domestic Violence occurs between people with an intimate relationship e.g. married couples or within families. It consists of a pattern of abuse, which can have many forms including physical assaults, sexual assaults, or emotional assaults.
It is reported that one-third of married women have experienced emotional, physical, or sexual violence from their spouse in their marital relationship. So imagine, if you have 3 sisters, one of them could experience domestic abuse. Majority women, an especially those trafficked into forced labour or prostitution. Between 5,000 and 12,000 girls and women aged 10 to 20 years of age are trafficked every year, 75 percent of whom are below 18 years of age and the majority of whom are sold into forced prostitution.
