8th February: At the airport of Kathmandu you are awaited by the coordinator of Volunteers Initiative Nepal, we were driving to a hotel in the quarters of thamel. The hotel premium is in small street in the north west , this place give the possibilities to visit this touristic place easer and to go to balaju quarter where VIN is located. The roof of the hotel gives a great and panoramic view of Kathmandu valley. The volunteers stay here for 3 days, it’s time to meet the others volunteers, visit a faster Kathmandu and participate induction to know your volunteering project and Nepalese culture.
During the first hour of the induction you are explained about the organization and its work in the community. This session is followed by presentation on cultural immersion, where you get to know about nepali culture and living style a lot. During a lunch break you can eat a typical Nepali food at VINs office. Later the day you will be sharing your expertise and experience so as to know what the best of your capability could be delivered for community empowerment. After the end of the induction you will be guided to the hotel premium.
The second day doctor Laxmi presents on Health tips, important information on safety problems in Nepal, health hazards safety problems in Nepal. This information provides insight to the volunteers on what they should be doing or not. You are oriented regarding your project by your project supervisor. They will provide your work plan at least for a week in the beginning. This helps to minimize the risk factor. After a typical lunch again, Shradha give Nepali language class, some expression and what they mean.
The third day begins with Nepali language. After the language class volunteers are oriented on their placement, your host-family, how many members, their name, where they live etc. After lunch break you are placed in the community site.
After these 3 days you have an idea of the Nepal live, their culture, life-style but much the better once you arrive in your host family. Sometimes it is not easy to communicate with them but they are always happy and helpful .
