Free Volunteering Training at VIN

Usually it is the international volunteers who get involved in all the VIN projects. However the project also needs equal involvement of local volunteers. VIN equally prioritizes the local and international volunteers. It feels the need of motivating the local volunteers as much as it does to the international volunteers. The local volunteers are the ones who understand the community in much better way since they are more familiar with the community they would have to work for. So, for the summer projects VIN has for the month of July and August, VIN organized free volunteering training for the local volunteers.
The training was organized inside the premises of VIN’s office itself. The free volunteering training was attended by 20 local volunteers. It was an interactive session. After the volunteers were introduced to VIN and objective of organizing the free volunteering training, they were introduced with some life skills that would also help them while they volunteer. They were talked about the importance of communication within the team. VIN’s volunteer Leah O’Hara trained the participants with assertive communication and time management. The free volunteering training organized yesterday was not just a preaching training. The trainers were there to involve the participants in interactive activities.
The first half of the free volunteering training was about the introduction of VIN and projects. In the second half after they were trained about various life skills via games and interactive activities. Those life skill trainings were provided by VIN’s ECD facilitator Swostika Aryal and Leah O’Hara together. The participants seemed to have enjoyed the training. Their feedback was that the free volunteering training was an opportunity for them to learn new things that they can apply in their life.
