Introduction

Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN), established in 2005 by a diverse group drawn from development workers, educationalists, social activists and other professionals, is a non-religious, non-political, non-for-profit, and non-governmental organization (NGO). VIN is officially registered under the Society Act with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu (Reg. No. 147/062/63), and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council Nepal (SWC) (Affiliation No. 20910). VIN focuses on community-based projects involving local volunteers backed-up by international volunteers in Nepal.

VIN has been mobilizing local and international volunteers in various development sectors including educational programs, trainings and counseling that significantly contribute to enhance the livelihoods of poor and marginalized / disadvantaged communities in Nepal. VIN has also been deploying its volunteers in teaching, teacher training, environment, health and sanitation, helping children in orphanages, women empowerment support, youth empowerment and entrepreneurship development.

Mission                      

Empowering marginalised communities through equitable, inclusive and holistic development programmes. 

This will be done through enhanced Education, Health and Environment, Economy & basic Infrastructure Development by implementing Women’s empowerment, Children’s development, Youth empowerment and Public health & Medical care, Environment Conservation and Disaster Risk Reduction programmes with special focus on women and children by conducting soft skills & hands-on training and research, developing basic infrastructure, mobilising skilled local and international volunteers to promote equality, economic well-being and basic human rights.

Goals and Objectives

To improve the basic public health condition of community people

Objectives

  • To identify common health problems and associated risk factors in communities
  • To increase access to quality health services at community level
  • To increase access to hygiene and sanitation facilities
  • To educate community people about basic health, hygiene & sanitation
  • To provide training on basic first aid to different groups from target communities

 

To empower women to improve their quality of life

Objectives

  • To educate women on their rights, life skills and health & sanitation
  • To ensure  women involvement in micro-credit
  • To enable women contribute minimum 40 percent of family income

 

To facilitate children’s development & protect child rights

Objectives

  • To make children aware about basic child rights
  • To develop child friendly environment and ensure child rights in the society
  • To support children on physical and mental growth and development in proportion to age
  • To ensure children participation on development activities

 

To develop skills among youth and mobilise them on development activities

Objectives

  • To educate youth on their rights and life skills through trainings, workshops and campaigns
  • To ensure youth participation in development activities
  • To develop youth friendly societies through capacity development and employment opportunities

Environment and Conservation:

Goal: Conserving, promoting and protecting environment and culture for future generation

Objectives:

  • Identify common environmental problems and associated factors for climate change
  • Prevent and control water, land and air pollution and develop best practices for environment conservation, protection and promotion
  • Educate on Protection and conservation of natural and cultural heritage site

Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR):

Goal: Minimize the risk of natural disaster and provide relief and safety to vulnerable communities

Objectives:

  • Educate Communities on Disaster Risk Reduction, Response, Mitigation and Preparedness
  • Promote and ensure disaster resilient infrastructure
  • Develop skill and involve affected people in entrepreneurship

Volunteers Initiative Nepal(VIN) is a non- religious, non-political, non-for-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO). Volunteering with VIN was an incredibly experience! I spent an amazing 2 weeks working in 4 schools teaching about disasters and preparedness while enhancing the childrens english. Everyone I met was so lovely and helpful enciting me into their culture. While in Okhaldhunga I got to see multiple festivals including Gai Jatra and Teej, which was unforgettable and really made my time in Nepal. I'm so glad VIN allowed me to see the beautiful sights and culture if Nepal and I wish to come back soon!

Well, I was that lucky one who got an opportunity to work with VIN (Volunteer Initiative Nepal) as a local volunteer. It was the best part of my entire life till. During my time volunteering (about 3 months), I gained valuable skills like project management , community outreach. This experience also contributed my personal growth by enhancing my leadership abilities and improving my communication skills.Thank you VIN 🥰❣️I recommend all my other friends who are pursuing to do community work and who have commitments to do it, do visit VIN.
