Successful Fundraisers from Friends of VIN, Netherlands

Friends of VIN, NL has successfully raised €10,696 and has transferred to VIN’s account in Nepal in June 2014. FoVIN, NL was established in March 2011 for the purpose of supporting Volunteers Initiative Nepal initiated projects to empower the marginalized communities in Nepal.Since its inception, the founder and Executive Director of the organization Ann Wilson has actively been involved for various fund raising activities. Juna Shrestha has actively been supporting her through the process. Besides the fundraisers, FoVIN also has recruited many volunteers and interns. The organization raised the funds from the following sources:

Corporate Sponsorship from Genscape: Genscape Inc. is the originator of real-time power supply information to support decision making for power marketers, regulators, utilities, distributors, and other energy market participants. The company donated FoVIN €3000 under its CSR. The staff of Genscape also raise money for FoVIN, NL through their piggy bank.

International School of Dusseldorf (ISD): International School of Düsseldorf e.V is a non-profit School – investing everything in their students. The school has over 1080 students from 50 nations. The school organizes student group volunteer tours abroad. FoVIN, NL has a strong partnership with ISD and organized a volunteer trip to Nepal earlier this year. The participant students organized fundraisers and raised about €4000 for FoVIN, NL.

Cheers to Nepal: At the end of March FoVIN, NLthrew a fundraiser party called “Cheers to Nepal”. The organization found a venue in Amsterdam whose owner was more than happy to host the event – AND he offered to donate all his profits from that night to the organization! The organization also arranged a raffle where the prizes were a clothes voucher (sponsored by a Nepalese clothing company), a free dinner for two at a local Nepalese restaurant, and lastly the organization had 3 photo books (with photos exclusively from VIN’s project areas; JitpurPhedi and Okhaldhunga) made by a Portuguese photographer (Elisabete Maisao) who visited Nepal a couple of years ago.It was a great evening; everyone had fun while FoVIN raised money for VIN’s projects.

Later this year, FoVIN, NL plan on doing a couple of similar events.
The funds will be used for women empowerment and making grade one child-friendly in Taluwa VDC of Okhaldhunga, Nepal. The projects initiated by VIN &FoVIN will benefit over 500 women through their health check-up, education & life skills, income generation, microcredit and over 100 children by setting up child friendly classrooms. The projects are already in operation.

We would like to thank FoVIN, NL Director Ann Wilson and Juna Shrestha for their tremendous effort on the fundraisers. We wish them every success in future fundraisers!

Volunteering with VIN was an incredibly experience! I spent an amazing 2 weeks working in 4 schools teaching about disasters and preparedness while enhancing the childrens english. Everyone I met was so lovely and helpful enciting me into their culture. While in Okhaldhunga I got to see multiple festivals including Gai Jatra and Teej, which was unforgettable and really made my time in Nepal. I'm so glad VIN allowed me to see the beautiful sights and culture if Nepal and I wish to come back soon!
