International Volunteering: Working for Children

Working with children is one of the most worthwhile and fulfilling thing you can do in your extra time.  It is fun, inspirational and most importantly, it can allow you to improve the lives of children dramatically. There are  many different, exciting and diverse programs available with VIN  and every year a lot of volunteers come here to work on Children’s Development Program and take part in various projects like Children’s Life Skills Facilitation, Working for Street Children, Teaching Sports, Teaching English at Buddhist Monastery, Child Care Early Childhood Education. (For More Projects on Child Development (Click Here)).

What kinds of opportunities are available?

The aim of all Child Development programs is to protect the rights of all children in the community by: providing access to a basic, quality education; developing their life skills; and providing access to health services (through our Community Health Program).
Here are some opportunities available with Working for Children:

  1. Participating in the Children’s Life Skills Facilitation can provide volunteers with a unique opportunity to directly impact Nepali children by creating a positive and fun environment while simultaneously teaching them important life skills that will allow them to lead empowered lives.
  2. Running sports programs in different communities for children. If you are active, energetic and enthusiastic about helping kids through sports, this is for you.
  3. Helping children to learn English (in community schools or monasteries). The beauty of this is that no formal training or qualifications are required!
  4. Creative Expression: Arts and Crafts
International volunteer teaching arts & crafts to the children at public shcools in nepal

5. During all these projects you will live in the community in a home-stay environment with a Nepali host family, where you will get chance to immerse with Nepali Culture and traditions.

Volunteering with VIN was an incredibly experience! I spent an amazing 2 weeks working in 4 schools teaching about disasters and preparedness while enhancing the childrens english. Everyone I met was so lovely and helpful enciting me into their culture. While in Okhaldhunga I got to see multiple festivals including Gai Jatra and Teej, which was unforgettable and really made my time in Nepal. I'm so glad VIN allowed me to see the beautiful sights and culture if Nepal and I wish to come back soon!
