Being my first volunteering project, I chose VIN because they had the most information available and they work towards the local community with an integrated perspective. They were very helpful from the first email exchange and made me feel confident about coming to Nepal. They are very organized and continually supported me during my placement, taking care of every detail I needed, from the very friendly hotel they put me in the beginning, to my goodbye to the monastery.
Teaching english at the monastery exceeded my expectations. I felt that I was really helping and at the same time I got so much back from the monks. Daily life was so interesting: having meals with the monks, watching debates and praying ceremonies, learning about Buddhism and sharing life experiences and perspectives.
I also have to mention the amazing spirit that existed between the volunteers, that started with the induction sessions and went on through the weekends when we would all get together and share our experiences.
