Why sponsor this child ?
Nirupa comes from a very poor family , relying solely on her grandfathers pension . Her mother eloped with different man and she hasn’t heard from her father since many years . She lives with her grandparents . She and her sister does all the household chores and agricultural works and have hardly time to do her homework. Their family hardly has rice to eat most of time and relies on some crops grown in their farm like maize and barley .
Nirupa , older sister of Rupa is very hardworking , positive and responsible student . She poses very mature understanding and mindset like an adult . That’s why she was also elected as Leader of environment club since 2023 and have been fulfilling the role very diligently. Under her leadership , she has maintained cleanliness and run many waste management awareness programs at the school.
Furthermore, She has never failed to show and prove , how much she enjoys reading and getting lost in books . She also won award for the best reader and the student who borrowed most number of books in year 2023. Sometimes , she is seen upset and not being able to focus on studies because of her family conditions and often coming to school with hungry stomach.
Message from the teacher
If someone could help her financially to buy the stationeries and support her higher studies up to grade 12 , I believe she can sustain herself after that by getting a job.
CASE STUDY OF RUPA AND NIRUPA BHUJEL
Rupa Bhujel and Nirupa Bhujel , the sibling sisters are very hardworking and active in school. I often found these students reading books at library during lunch. When I realized , they are skipping lunch everyday , I asked,” why would they always do that “?Nirupa making a shy face, told me she has no money to eat lunch. Her younger sister Rupa told me very hesitantly ,they barely has rice to eat at home. They eat maize and barley if there is available in some months , otherwise no food to eat.
I remember , they two are also the same students which I encountered ,in the beginning of the year I started teaching at library . They told me something, I couldn’t believe. They told me that , they have no electricity at house. They have no money to buy candles and no money to pay for electricity.
Rupa and Nirupa , has to do a lot of household chores during and morning and evening . So they would do their homework with barely any light of Rupas watch. It would be very stressful for them during exams, as they had to work a lot in agriculture and looking after their animals, they barely get any time to study at home.
Rupa aged 15 and Nirupa aged 16 lives with their grandparents only. Their grandparents are 70 years old and the entire family rely on their allowance : 4000 per month to eat. Her grandfather is permanently ill and often , the money has to spend on their health and hospital fees. Rupa and Nirupas mother, eloped with another man and soon after that , their father also remarried another woman . The parents abandoned rupa and nirupa since child. These children hardly have seen what comfort and home feels. They don’t know what a mother or father figure seems like. The both sisters, they often work at villagers house and farm in holidays and sometimes even bunks schools . The money they earn goes to family to buy food and remaining stationeries. Rupa works 10 hours in her neighbors farm and gets merely Rs 350 . They have made so far , living like this.
I have also come to know that , their younger uncle lives with them and is alcoholic , often beats the younger sister Rupa and her grandparents . The uncle was taken to police station many times, but still possess same drinking and violence habits .
Despite the dark background they are living, these students , I understand after spending so long time are one of the nicest children I know, who never knows how to complain and always happy to learn at library even with hungry stomach.
Rupa is bit bubbly and fun loving . She loves dancing , playing with her friends and learning new things . Nirupa on other hands , is more matured , responsible , never complains of anything . She loves reading books in library . She is also environment club leader . Nirupa dreams of becoming a social worker in future and Rupa a police officer. It would be very fruitful and great cause, if anyone could support these sisters to complete their higher education and until they become financially independent and prove to become a great person in future .
