Lawrence Lama is a dedicated community development practitioner with a strong background in social service, legal advocacy and grassroots program coordination across Nepal. With a passion for inclusive growth, he has consistently worked with underserved populations, combining compassion with practical solutions in the development sector.
At VIN, he serves as the District Program Coordinator for Okhaldhunga, where he leads the planning, execution and evaluation of VIN’s multifaceted community development programs. These include Women’s Empowerment, Children’s Development, Youth Engagement, Public Health, Environmental Conservation and Disaster Risk Reduction. His responsibilities also cover strategic action planning, volunteer mobilization, stakeholder engagement and local resource management.
He has served in key leadership roles as a Project and Program Coordinator across various districts of Nepal, particularly focusing on post-disaster recovery and sustainable community development. He is experienced in legal counseling, social mobilization, strategic project planning and effective coordination with stakeholders such as government agencies, NGOs and local community groups. His field-based leadership, especially in rural and remote areas, reflects his adaptability, problem solving ability and dedication to community-led progress. He is also a registered advocate with the Nepal Bar Council, demonstrating his professional qualifications in the legal sector and his commitment to ethical and lawful practices in all aspects of his development work.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Humanities and Social Sciences from Tribhuvan University, where he developed a strong foundation in social theory and community engagement. In addition, he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Studies (BBS) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) equipping him with valuable knowledge in management, governance and legal advocacy. He is also a licensed advocate, officially registered with the Nepal Bar Council.
He possesses strong skills in strategic program management, legal counseling and social mobilization, with a proven ability to lead multi-sectoral development projects. His expertise includes stakeholder coordination, volunteer and staff mobilization and resource and budget management.
He has participated in several international workshops and conferences that have broadened his global perspective and professional expertise. His travel history includes visits to India, Sri Lanka and Thailand, where he engaged in training programs focused on youth leadership, food security, sustainability and Zero hunger. These international exposures have enriched his understanding of cross-cultural collaboration and innovative development practices.
He is passionate about social equity, community empowerment and sustainable development. He enjoys engaging with youth and marginalized groups, supporting grassroots initiatives and exploring new ways to bring positive change in rural Nepal. He strongly believes in collaborative leadership, lifelong learning and service-based advocacy.
At VIN, his leadership has strengthened district coordination and expanded the effectiveness of community-based interventions. He has played a pivotal role in enhancing the impact of development programs in Okhaldhunga by ensuring building stakeholder trust and promoting community ownership. His oversight of the Community Learning Centre and volunteer management systems has significantly contributed to educational access and local capacity-building.
