Manita Bishowkarma

Introduction

“Manita, you want to be a doctor, right? Why?”

“Because I want to treat my mother in the future.”

“What are needed to be a doctor?”

“I need to study a lot, and…you know, money.”

Manita Bishowkarma, a bright and determined 13-year-old girl, resides in Nishankhe Thulachhap of Siddhicharan Municipality, Okhaldhunga, Nepal. She is a 7th-grade student at Raktamala Basic School, Jordhara. Manita is a dedicated student as a student council and an active participant in school life.

“Do you know how much money you need in total to be a doctor?”

“I think 2-3 million.”

“And how do you collect such a huge amount of money?”

“I will have to beg my parents. And we might have to sell our land.”

“Will it be enough?”

“…I am not sure.”

Her family’s income is limited, which presents challenges in ensuring Manita has all the resources she needs to thrive and pursue her dream.

Family & Challenges

Manita lives with her parents, Chhatra Bahadur Bishowkarma being her father. The family has six members. They have one son and three daughters including Manita, all of whom are currently studying at school. Their father is a driver. Their yearly income is merely 140,000 NPR (approximately $1050 USD / $87.5 USD monthly). This amount is lower than the half of average income in Nepal. Although they understand the value of education, their limited income makes it challenging to cover all essential expenses and support Manita’s aspirations.

Here are some of the key challenges they face:

  • Balancing Needs: The family needs to carefully balance expenses like food, housing, clothing, education, and healthcare for all six family members.
  • Supporting Educational Goals: Manita’s dream of becoming a doctor requires continued education and potentially further studies, which can be expensive.

The Need for Sponsorship

Sponsorship is important for Manita. It will provide her with:

  • Essential School Supplies: This includes books, stationery, and a school uniform, ensuring she has the tools she needs to learn.
  • Exposure: providing her with an opportunity to explore ways of building up her future to become a doctor.

The Impact of Sponsorship

Sponsoring Manita will have a truly transformative effect on her life, her family, and her community. It will:

  • Keep her in School: Providing the resources she needs to continue her education and pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.
  • Ease the Family’s Burden: Reducing the financial strain on her family, allowing them to use their resources more effectively.
  • Empower a Future Doctor: Helping Manita build her confidence, develop valuable skills, and become a positive role model in her community.

Conclusion

Manita Bishowkarma is a promising young girl with a strong desire to learn and succeed. She dreams of a brighter future for herself and her family, and aspires to serve her community as a doctor. Sponsorship will give her the stability and the opportunities she needs to achieve her full potential.
