Laxmi Ale Magar

Who is Laxmi?

“I eat dinner at 8 PM, and I study until 10 or 11 PM. I get up at 5 or 6 AM.”

Laxmi Ale Magar is a bright and enthusiastic 12-year-old girl residing in Bhadaure, Okhaldhunga, Nepal. She is a 6th-grade student at Raktamala Basic School in Jordhara. Laxmi is a dedicated student who aspires to become a teacher. She enjoys dancing and sports and actively participates in school activities. She helps housework well, and she can even cook a meal by herself. Her family’s income, however, presents challenges in providing her with the resources she needs to excel in her education.

Family & Challenges

Laxmi lives with her mother, Lekha Maya Thapa Ale Magar, and her family, which includes six members. Her little brother is studying in the same school as Laxmi. The family has their own fields to do agriculture, and they sell some parts of vegetables they grow. However, they are not enough for them to continue eating. Lekha and her husband do labor work such as carrying heavy mud and stones. They are struggling to cover all expenses, especially Laxmi’s education and other necessities.

The family faces these key challenges:

  • Managing Expenses: Balancing their income to cover food, housing, clothing, healthcare, and education for all family members requires careful planning.
  • Educational Costs: Ensuring access to quality education for Laxmi and potentially other children in the family can be a financial strain.

The Need for Sponsorship

Sponsorship is important for Laxmi. It will provide her with:

  • School Supplies: Essential materials such as books, stationery, and a school uniform.
  • Financial Aid: Help with school fees and other educational expenses.
  • Healthcare Access: Ensuring she can access medical care when needed.

The Impact of Sponsorship

Sponsoring Laxmi will have a positive impact on her life and her family. It will:

  • Allow her to continue her education without financial concerns.
  • Enable her to participate in extracurricular activities and pursue her interests.
  • Reduce the financial burden on her family, allowing them to better meet their needs.
