Katrina Shrestha

Introduction

“Oh, can you make chiya (Nepali tea) by yourself?”

“Yes, I can.”

A gilr was confidently making chiya for us. Her father laughed and said, “she can cook everything for our family”.

Katrina Shrestha is a 9 year-old girl residing in Nishankhe, Okhaldhunga, Nepal. She can be described as an active girl. She not only actively helps housework, but also actively participates in her school life. She is a 5th-grade student at Raktamala Basic School in Jordhara. She always give her smile to classmates, and makes the classroom bright. As is observed in the classroom, she answers teachers’ questions in a loud voice.

“I want to be a math teacher.” After she goes back from school, she goes into her room to do homework every day. “I know Katrina has to take a specific course from 9th grade in order to be a math teacher”, “her father Bikaram Shrestha understands his daughter.  “But we are not sure if we can ensure all of her educational needs”.

Family & Challenges

Katrina lives with Bikaram, her mother Nabina Shrestha, and her little sister, who is also studying in the same school.  Bikram said, “I was working in Malaysia, but after I got back here because the contract was over, we do not have any income in particular. We do some agriculture, but it only lasts 3 to 4 month for us to eat up.” They have their own store to sell some daily products such as snacks, but it is just small business. Under the current financial future, the family has difficulty in predicting their future, especially the future of Katrina.

  • School Supplies: Essential materials such as books, stationery, and a school uniform.
  • Financial Aid: Help get exposure trips which will develop her personally in every dimension and other educational expenses.
  • Providing Optimal Basic Needs: Managing better food, clothes and hygiene material for her and the family.

Sponsoring Katrina will have a positive impact on her life. It will:

  • Financial Aids: Allow her to continue her education without financial concerns.
