Avishek Achhami

Introduction

“Do you know the name of those berries? I will climb up the tree and pick them for you.”

He knows everything about how to survive in a remote village in Nepal. He can climb up a tree, play football with a plastic bottle, and plough a field. Although he is unprivileged and economically difficult, he is always bright and powerful.

Avishek Achhami is a 13-year-old boy, residing in Thulachhap of Siddhicharan Municipality Ward No. 2, Okhaldhunga, Nepal.  He’s currently in the 7th grade at Raktamala Basic School in Jordhara. Avishek is a dedicated student with a real passion for learning, saying “I really want to join the army. I am not kidding!” He positively supports household, too. His family, however, faces significant financial challenges, which put his education at risk.

Family & Challenges

Avishek lives with her mother Maya Achhami, his little sister, and nephew. His father is now working in Malaysia to maintain their livelihood. Maya does agriculture, not for selling but for them eating.  Maya says, “our village is totally different from the city. We have limited access to everything.” They have difficulty in meeting even basic needs.  Their limited finances mean they struggle to afford essentials like school fees, books, uniforms, and healthcare for Avishek.

Here are some of the key challenges they face:

  • Balancing Needs: The family needs to carefully balance expenses like food, housing, clothing, education, and healthcare for all six family members.
  • Supporting Educational Goals: Manita’s dream of becoming a doctor requires continued education and potentially further studies, which can be expensive.

The Need for Sponsorship

Sponsorship is absolutely essential for Avishek.  It will provide him with:

  • Essential School Supplies: This includes books, stationery, and a school uniform, ensuring he has the tools he needs to learn.
  • Tuition Support: Help with school fees and other learning materials.
  • Opportunities Beyond the Classroom: Support to participate in extracurricular activities, which are important for his overall development.
  • Access to Healthcare: Ensuring he can get medical attention when he needs it.
  • Nutritional Support: Helping him stay healthy so he can focus on his studies.

The Impact of Sponsorship

Sponsoring Avishek will have a truly transformative effect on his life, his family, and his community.  It will:

  • Keep him in School: Providing the resources he needs to continue his education and reach his academic goals.
  • Ease the Family’s Burden: Reducing the financial strain on his family, allowing them to use their limited resources more effectively.
  • Empower a Future Leader: Helping Avishek build his confidence, develop valuable skills, and become a positive force in his community.
  • Inspire Others: Showing the community the power of education and encouraging the children to pursue their studies.

Avishek Achhami is a promising young boy with a strong desire to learn and succeed, despite the difficult circumstances he faces.  He dreams of overcoming these obstacles and building a brighter future for himself and his family. Avishek needs to continue his schooling and break the cycle of poverty that affects his family and community. Sponsorship will give him the stability and the opportunities he needs to achieve his full potential.
