Forest for Food Program – A Gift That Grows This Christmas
This Christmas, join an impactful movement that uplifts communities and heals the environment. Through Nepal’s Forest for Food Program, your contribution plants fruit and nut trees that sustain families, enrich ecosystems, and nurture a sustainable future. This is more than a gift; it’s an investment to combat climate change’s impacts on the well-being of people and the planet.
Volunteers Initiative Nepal (ViN) will collaborate with the local community from the beginning, ensuring their active involvement in planting and caring for the trees until they mature. Families will be responsible for protecting the young plants from wild animals and, in turn, will reap the harvest from the trees they nurture.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary (20 for 20—meaning 20 years with 20 types of plants), ViN is committed to planting 10,000 trees in Okhaldhunga. This milestone embodies two decades of community-driven progress and environmental stewardship. Join this journey and give the gift that keeps on growing.

Plant 65 Trees (a blend of Mango, Jackfruit, Banana, Avocado, and Nut Trees). Support a more extensive food forest that ensures food security, enhances ecosystems, promotes long-term resilience, and discourages wildlife from damaging crops. - $500 – Transform a Landscape
Plant 125 Trees (comprehensive mix of fruit and nut trees). Fund a substantial forest that becomes a lasting source of nourishment, supports wildlife, reduces soil erosion, and combats climate change, all while helping prevent crop destruction.
Tree Distribution Overview
ViN’s 20th-anniversary goal includes planting 10,000 trees at a total cost of $45,000—with $35,000 for seedlings and $10,000 for logistics and plantation. This strategic initiative contributes to food security and reduces human-wildlife conflict, as providing food in the forest helps deter animals like monkeys from invading village farms.

How ViN Achieves This: Step-by-Step Approach
- Site Assessment and Planning
ViN selects optimal planting sites based on environmental soil, water, and existing flora and fauna assessments. - Selection of Resilient Tree Species
Native and climate-suitable trees are chosen to ensure long-term sustainability and adaptability to local conditions. - Community Engagement and Education
ViN works alongside the local community, educating them about the benefits of afforestation and training them in tree care, ensuring sustainable management and shared responsibility. - Planting and Initial Maintenance
Volunteers and residents collaborate on planting. The initial care phase includes mulching, watering, and monitoring the young trees for healthy growth. - Ongoing Workshops and Training
Regular workshops cover permaculture, water management, and wildlife protection, empowering locals to manage forests independently. - Wildlife and Environmental Monitoring
ViN evaluates interactions between wildlife and the newly planted forests to measure the effectiveness in protecting crops and promoting biodiversity.
Why Your Contribution Matters
