Voluntary Work

The first thing we expect for doing any work either mental or physical, is money. Yes, it is obvious because money satisfy our needs and it is the means for comfortable life. Then, what if someone asks you to do voluntary work without any compensation. What would be your answer, perhaps big no? But did you ever think about the benefit of voluntary work except in monetary term. Did you Know 26% of people in England participated in formal volunteering at least once a month and 35% of people in England participated in informal volunteering at least once a month. Well-developed nation where there is high opportunity for employment, people still want to engage in voluntary work. The reason is clear, voluntary work has its own benefit greater than monetary benefit, Volunteers are paid in six figures… “S-M-I-L-E-S“, that no money can buy.
 
Volunteers are somebody! Somebody who cares, somebody who devotes time without pay, somebody who praises all, large or small and somebody who has a common bond with others to make things better. Volunteering is any activity which involves spending time, unpaid, doing something which aims to benefit someone (individuals or groups) other than or in addition to close relatives, or to benefit the environment. Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections to choose a leader, but when you volunteer, you are the leader and has a right make a community you want to live in. So volunteering is the platform to be the change, you wish to see in the world.
 
With a busy lives schedule, it can be hard to find time for volunteering. However, the merits of volunteering are enormous to you and the community you work in, people manage to find time for volunteering. Volunteering connects you to other, help to make new friends, and develop interpersonal skill. You are meeting regularly with a group of people with common interests. Volunteering is good for your body and mind too because when you are doing good for others and the community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Your role as a volunteer can also give you a sense of pride and identity. And the better you feel about yourself, the more likely you are to have a positive view of your life and future goals. Doing volunteer work is so much fun and relaxing, escape from your day-to-day routine of work, school, or family commitments. Volunteering also provides you with renewed creativity, motivation, and vision that can carry over into your personal and professional life. If you’re considering a new career, volunteering can help you get experience in your area of interest and meet people in the field. Even if you’re not planning on changing careers, volunteering gives you the opportunity to practice important skills used in the workplace, such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, project planning, task management, and organization.
 
You can find plenty of volunteer organizations offering volunteering programs. All of them are not equally contributing for the welfare of the community. If you choose wrong volunteer organization then all your hard work would be wasted. So be careful before choosing volunteer organization. Study their background, history, their work, their success stories and testimonials from their past volunteer. Don’t limit yourself to only one volunteer organization and programs, identify your strength and weakness, choose volunteer programs and organization base on your capability so that both you and volunteering organization be benefited from your decision. You’re donating your valuable time, so it’s important that you enjoy and benefit from your volunteering.
