I have had such a wonderful and amazing time volunteering in Nepal I don’t know what I will miss most! I started teaching English at community school a month ago now, and I can’t believe how fast the time has gone. I was teaching English to grade 2, 3 and 4 at Kathmandu Vidya Mandir Secondary School in the Kathmandu area. The school was so wonderful, the kids were so excited to see me each day and it was easy to make great friends with students of all grades during lunchtimes and after school. The staff at KVM were also very supportive throughout my time there and made an effort to include me in their staff activities which were very enjoyable and really culturally enriching. I noticed real improvement in my student’s English grammar skills which made me very excited and proud. I stayed with a local family throughout the whole experience which really made my time in Nepal so much more meaningful as I was culturally integrated and living the Nepali lifestyle which was probably actually one of the most meaningful parts of the whole experience.
VIN have been incredible throughout my month here. The induction period was really beneficial for my teaching and they provided me with endless support throughout the placement. I highly recommend teaching English at community schools with VIN for anyone who is looking for something different, challenging, exciting and enriching.
