For the last 2½ month I have had the experience of working with VIN (Volunteers Initiative Nepal) and Red Cross Society Nepal, as a part of my internship. I study Disaster and Risk Management at the Metropolitan University College of Copenhagen, and heard of VIN during a presentation at my University, and felt VIN could provide me with the kind of internship I wanted – Practical work and more administrative work. My internship was partly with VIN where I did toilet construction as a part of the Construction and manual work project, and with Red Cross Society Nepal where I taught secondary school students about earthquake security and awareness as a part of the Earthquake Preparedness for Safer Communities.
The construction work with VIN in the Jitpurphedi district, was a really good experience. Meeting the friendly people of the Jitpurphedi district, and see their hospitality, even though they live with limited resources. The same counts for the VIN staff and all the foreign volunteers. In office you had the possibility to discuss your project and share your experiences with the staff and the volunteers.
In all, an experience I would recommend to potential future volunteers and interns.
