Safalta Shrestha

Who is Safalta?

When you visit her house, you would find a girl helping making raksi, a local alkohol. She tried to move the water vessel, which looked hot and heavy for 12-year-old girl, but she was doing that task without any difficulty or complaint. She just kept silent. “She is dedicated to help housework”, her mother, Ful Kumari Shrestha said. “She also goes walk for goats. It is really helpful”.

Safalta Shrestha is a bright and kind girl residing in Nishankhe, a community within the Thulachhap area of Siddhicharan Municipality, Okhaldhunga, Nepal. She is a 5th-grade student at Raktamala Basic School in Jordhara. She likes to study English. She enjoys dancing and actively participates in school life. She dreams of becoming a teacher. While watching her working hard in front of you, you would imagine her becoming a kind, considerate teacher.

However, the road to realize that dream seems not to be easy. Her family’s income, primarily from agriculture, presents challenges in providing her with the resources she needs to thrive.

Family & Challenges

Safalta lives with 4 family members. They rely on agriculture as the main source of income, earning only 20,000 NPR (about $148 USD) per month. It is lower than the average income around Nepal.  With that amount of money, it is obviously challenging to cover all expenses, including food, housing, clothing, healthcare, and  Safalta’s educational expenses. “The problem is, we are isolated” Ful Kumari says. “If we reside in a different town, it might be easier to have access to job, materials and education, but that is not what we have.”

The family faces these key challenges:

  • Managing Expenses: Balancing their income to cover food, housing, clothing, healthcare, and education for all family members requires careful planning.
  • Educational Costs: Ensuring access to quality education for Safalta and potentially other children in the family can be a financial strain.

Passing governmental level examination is necessary to become a teacher, but it costs expenses. Needless to say, Safalta is required to keep attending the classes, but she is not sure if she can continue buying essential materials such as books, stationary, and a school uniform.

The Need for Sponsorship

Sponsorship is important for Safalta. It will provide her with:

  • School Supplies: Essential materials such as books, stationery, and a school uniform.
  • Prepare for her Dream: Passing governmental level examination is necessary to become a teacher.

The Impact of Sponsorship

Sponsoring Safalta will have a positive impact on her life and her family. It will:

  • Contribution for Next Generation: Give a teacher who can make students grow to their full potential
  • Provide Financial Freedom: Allowing her to continue her education and pursue her interests without financial concerns. Also allowing her family to better meet their needs.

Conclusion

Safalta Shrestha is a promising young girl with a strong desire to learn and succeed, despite the difficult circumstances she faces.  She dreams of overcoming these obstacles and building a brighter future for herself, her family and next generations.  Sponsorship will give her the stability and the opportunities she needs to achieve her full potential.
