Abiral Thatal

Who is Abiral?

“Hi, sir. You can come to our home today ! Come! Come!”

While we were staying in his school, a boy always tried to guide us to his house. On the road to home, he asked us series of questions that never ends, showing his smile all the time. Of course, he is always active in his school life, too. In the classroom, he shows curiosity, taking a role of making the class brighter. “We play football in the lunch break. Come!” He plays football every day with his friends, not with an actual ball, but with a plastic bottle.

His name is Abiral Thatal, a bright and determined 10-year-old boy, resides in Nishanlhe, Thulachhap of Siddhicharan Municipality Ward No. 2, Okhaldhunga, Nepal.  He’s currently in the 5th grade at Raktamala Basic School in Jordhara. “I want to join the Nepali Army in the future. I want to protect our country!” He is a dedicated student with a real passion for learning, but his family faces significant financial challenges. These challenges put his education at risk.  Sponsorship offers a vital lifeline, providing the resources. Abiral needs to continue his schooling and break the cycle of poverty that affects his family and community.

Family & Challenges

Abiral Thatal with father

Abiral lives with his grandfather Samtiram Thatal, his father, and his elder brother. His mother is staying abroad. The family’s livelihood depends on cloth sewing in their store. Their monthly income is 15,000-20,000 NPR (109 USD-146 USD), which is far lower than the average in Nepal. “We only have little field for our own, and we have to pay room rent for living”, Samtriam says. They have difficulty in meeting even basic needs.  Their limited finances mean they struggle to afford essentials like school fees, books, uniforms, and healthcare for Abiral.

Here are some of the key challenges they face:

  • Limited Resources: The family struggles to afford essential school supplies such as books, stationery, and uniforms.
  • Educational Barriers: Abiral’s family deeply values education but cannot fully support him due to their financial situation.

The Need for Sponsorship

Sponsorship is absolutely essential for Abiral.  It will provide him with:

  • Essential School Supplies: This includes books, stationery, and a school uniform, ensuring he has the tools he needs to learn.
  • Tuition Support: Help with school fees and other learning materials.
  • Opportunities Beyond the Classroom: Support to participate in extracurricular activities, which are important for his overall development.
  • Access to Healthcare: Ensuring he can get medical attention when he needs it.
  • Nutritional Support: Helping him stay healthy so he can focus on his studies.

The Impact of Sponsorship

Sponsoring Abiral will have a truly transformative effect on his life, his family, and his community.  It will:

  • Keep Him in School: Providing the resources he needs to continue his education and reach his academic goals.
  • Ease the Family’s Burden: Reducing the financial strain on his family, allowing them to use their limited resources more effectively.
  • Inspire Others: Showing the community the power of education and encouraging the children to pursue their studies.
