VIN conducted permaculture training between 22nd to the 26th March 2019 for the farmers from Taluwa, Siddhicharan municipality, ward 1 of Okhaldhunga. The program was inaugurated by ward president, Mr. Kedar Basnet of Siddhicharan municipality ward 1. 45 farmers participated the training. The course mainly focused on the sustainable food production and basic principles of Permaculture, and practical ideas. The farmers have learnt several sustainable agriculture practices in the Permaculture method such as:
- Rotating crops and embracing diversity;
- planting cover crops, reducing ploughing;
- applying integrated pest management (IPM);
- integrating livestock and crops;
- managing whole systems and landscapes;
- adopting agroforestry practices.
The farmers learnt the technique to grow multiple crops in small area and also respect the nature and ecosystem.
We hope the training supported for the sustainable food production and the impact can be seen in long term. VIN will support the trained farmers to implement the training methods into real life practices by deploying the permaculture volunteers. VIN has a plan to do more training to other communities in future. If you would like to get involved with us in Permaculture, apply today.
