Volunteers Initiative Nepal conducted induction program for 6 long-term volunteers on 1st and 2nd December. It was a two-day long orientation program. The volunteers received information about VIN and all of its programs. The orientation for the volunteers on the first day was divided into four sessions. The first session was VIN’s introduction where Mr. Bhupendra Ghimire, Executive Director of VIN, gave detailed information about VIN’s mission, vision, goals and objectives along with some basic information about Nepal.
In the second session, Dr. Laxmi Ghimire provided basic health tips to the volunteers. The health tips was provided to the volunteers so that it will help them to stay healthy and fit during their stay at Nepal. The third session was regarding the cultural tips and their placement information. Both the cultural tips of Nepal and information about their placement was provided by Mr.Dinesh Katiwada, Volunteer Manager. In the cultural tips, the volunteers were briefed about the dos and don’ts while they stay in Nepal. Further, they were also informed about the local culture, religious sites, modes of transportation they can use, major festivals and some places where they can go for sightseeing and travelling including trekking. The volunteers were briefed about their placements as well. They were informed about the environment of the host family they would be staying with. The last session for that day was Nepali class where the volunteers were taught some basic Nepali languages. The major aim of the Nepali class was to which will be helpful for them while working in the community.
The second day started with the program orientation for the volunteers according to their projects where they were given information about their individual projects they will be working on. The last session for that day was Nepali classes which were conducted only after the lunch. Finally they were placed to their respective host family/monastery by the VIN staffs.
