VIN has been providing different type of activities for agriculture development in Jitpurphedi community. Although there was a opportunity of high value vegetable farming, there was irrigation problem in the areas. This problem can be solved by making small scale irrigation pond at household level. Making this pond over land, flow of water during rainy season can be trapped and waste water from household can be collected and can be used for irrigation propose during dry season. Such a plastic pond has multiple benefits viz: it is simple and low cost technique. It also help to improve the hygiene of household environment. In this context, VIN has supported three project on mini plastic pond for women farmer in places; Tarkeshwor municipality -8,Aathmail. The main objectives are to collect water in pond for irrigation in dry season, to increase vegetable production items in season and off-season, to increase their income by off-season vegetable farming in time. For this three plastic pond were started with six international volunteers, two national and community people. At first, we taught community about concept, benefits and technique of construction for mini plastic pond. And then there started pond construction project.
Pond projects were known with suitable measurement of length-3m,breath-3m and hight-1.7m in Aathmile community. There were six international , two national volunteers and some community people divided two groups. On the process first we started digging pond hole according to measurement. The technology is suitable for this community. We had spend three days for one hole and, we finally dug a pit of the size mentioned above, then we made the sloped walls of the pit making a little slope and polished it using mud. Then we covered the walls and bottom of the pit using 18×24 sq. ft plastic which was of 120 gauge. Then the plastic was leveled with the ground and then it was supported by the use of stones and mud. Then the pit was covered with the help of bamboo.
Through this project the farmers of the village will easily be able to irrigate their farm even during the dry season. They were very happy from this project so they gave thanks to VIN and supporting volunteers for helping to complete the project. After watching this project, Neighbour communities farmer were demanding for mini plastic pond (measurement 3m*3m*1.7m) in their farm too.
