Holi is one of the main festivals in Nepal which is celebrated all over the country with huge enthusiasm of Nepali people. It is celebrated on the month of March on the full moon day. It is a big festival which is celebrated by offering colors to each other. Religiously, holi is celebrated to rejoice the victory over a demon called Holika. The preparation of Holi is seen in the city a day before where everyone buys different types of colors (powder & liquid), water balloons and pichkari (water gun).
Volunteers Initiative Nepal seized this opportunity to celebrate Holi with the volunteers on Thursday, 5th March, 2015. Everyone had a glee on their face to start the celebration and they were dressed up in festive way. Holi is also called a spring festival as it is marked as arrival of spring; season of joy and happiness. The celebration started from Hotel premium so we all gathered at hotel premium reception and started to celebrate this color of festival by throwing colors and water from Pichkari.
During the festival, the streets were filled with colourful people, color and water balloons. The celebration of holi last for almost a day at thamel. Experiencing the holi with the people who celebrated it for the first time is more amusing. The volunteers expressed their curiosity and interest in every activity took place in this day. In this festival, people also intoxicate by consuming ‘Bhang’. As expressed by volunteers they said that this festival is culturally as well as religiously rich. They seized the moment by throwing colors and water at each other. It was a good day spent with volunteers and brought a warm evening where volunteers got together for a pleasant dinner.
