VIN is looking for a volunteer or intern with website-design and search engine optimisation (SEO) experience to support our work in rural communities. If you have the desire to travel, are looking for a new challenge through which to develop your skills and want to give something back, this opportunity is for you.
As a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation dependent on international volunteer resources, VIN’s website and its search engine ranking are crucial to attract continued support. At VIN we have a small, dedicated staff. However, the skills to redesign, innovate and trouble-shoot our website are difficult to find and beyond our limited budget.
Here at VIN, our overriding objective is the empowerment of marginalised communities, with a focus on those most marginalised; women and children. We have been working with Jitpurphedi Village Development Committee (VDC) since 2007 and have recently begun work with Okhaldhunga district in the Everest region. Our community work is based on the foundations of health, education, the acquisition of economic tools and the provision of basic infrastructure. Upon these foundations we believe empowered and independent communities can be built.
Working as a volunteer or intern in Nepal is a unique opportunity. However, you don’t need to come to Nepal to take it, you can do it from your home country. Where ever you work, we need someone who can develop and maintain our websites, ensure the website is optimised for search engine visibility and that the website functions properly. You can also lend a hand helping to train our local staff in website development and maintenance.
In Nepal you will have the opportunity to live with a Nepali host family. You will become immersed in the rich culture of Nepali life and find context to the work that you are doing to help the country.
Throughout your placement you will have the full support of VIN. Your safety is our highest priority. On arrival you will be greeted at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport and transported to your hotel (alternative arrangements can be made for those already in Nepal prior to the start of their placement). You will then receive a comprehensive three-day induction, during which time you will be provided with information about your particular placement as well as general information, including basic Nepalese language and culture. This is also a good time to mix with other volunteers or interns who may be great sight-seeing companions and a source of support during your volunteer placement.
During the induction you will be accommodated in a hotel. However, a large part of the VIN experience comes from the immersion of a home stay with a Nepalese host family. While this is an essential part of the experience we also recognise that it can be a challenging one, becoming part of a new culture and becoming accustomed to facilities that will be more basic than those you are used to. However, all our host families are experienced in accommodating volunteers – although their ability to speak English will vary – and you will have 24 hour access to contact and support from our staff members during your placement.
