English and Career Development

Program Fees English & Career Development

Help to bring essential skills to the youth of Nepal to enable them to help develop for their own communities and compete with confidence in the job market.  VIN needs enthusiastic volunteers or interns to help in teaching english and career development, and other vocational skills, striving to provide work solutions in Nepal.

Nepal is struggling to find its identity.  It has no political constitution, inadequate infrastructure and is largely dependent upon subsistence farming.  Consequently, today’s Nepal offers limited direction or opportunity for its youth.  In education, nearly 60 percent of those Nepali youths who took the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) in 2013 failed.  Pass or fail, many see better prospects overseas.  Recent figures suggest as many as 1500 youths leave Nepal every day, migrating to study or work in more developed countries.  And with Nepal’s workforce resources leaving, it presents limited prospects for political and economic recovery.

VIN’s overriding objective is the empowerment of marginalised communities, with a focus on women and children.  Since 2007 we have been working with Jitpurphedi Village Development Committee (VDC), 12km outside Kathmandu, and have begun foundation work with Okhaldhunga district in the Everest region.  However, we firmly believe that a community cannot be empowered without investment in and empowerment of its youth.

VIN seeks enthusiastic and experienced volunteers and interns to motivate and inspire community youth, ages 16 – 30.  Guide them in learning English and career development , help develop skills such as CV writing and public speaking, or share basic computer skills, such as Word and Excel.  Overall, you will help to improve the competence and confidence of community youth.

Throughout your placement you will have the opportunity to live with a Nepali host family.  While allowing you to become immersed in Nepali language and culture, you will also experience the environment in which today’s community youth are developing.
