On August 11th 2015 VIN’s international volunteer coordination team visited the Jitpur Community in order to hand out follow up forms for the project the volunteers are participating(work camp and post disaster relief volunteering). . There, the newly arrived work camp volunteers seemed to have accommodated themselves quite well and were enjoying a beautiful sunny morning while the other volunteers were still gathering. The forms were distributed in the morning rush before each volunteer was placed in a construction site, and got collected later in the week. While giving the forms, the coordinators had a quick chat with everyone to make sure that everything is alright. This procedure is followed in order for the volunteers to evaluate the course of the project, while it gives them the chance to reflect and rethink in a deeper level about their goals and expectations regarding their project and the general function of the organization. Everyone was happy and full of energy even though some were still waking up. Leaving in small groups they all headed towards their worksites accompanied by VIN local volunteers
After, we met up with Erik at the healthpost and had a healthy conversation about his progress as the paramedics’ teacher. He made a few important observations such as the importance of being able to communicate properly and to achieve common understanding as well as noticing that paramedics here do not have the basic training they need in order to evolve and be able to save more lives, responsibly. It is important for VIN to gather this information as the staff can later evaluate and improve issues and problems, conduct surveys, make reports and store data relevant to the organization’s effective operation.
